Artist Statement Looking inside the Potter: My pottery is inspired by my Native American heritage. I am part Apache and Shoshone, with the rest being Irish. Because of this, I feel that my pottery should be as diversified as my heritage. The majority of my designs are drawn from the Southwestern Native Americans. Most of which are 1,000 years of age or older, but with my own interpretations. I personally brush paint in freehand style, each piece. On some occasions, I will use the traditional methods of making pottery. This involves applying an engobe and burnishing (polishing) it before the designs are applied. The process makes the piece pretty but not useful in daily life. I like my art to be functional as well as beautiful, leaving the owner to make the choice as to how to display or use the piece.
