Artist Biography
I was born in 1989 and grew up in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL USA. I started drawing at about age three and filled rolls of paper with thousands of dinosaur pictures. I soon moved onto other animals and occasionally took classes at studios in Jacksonville and throughout school.
I started tying flies (for fly-fishing) when I was about seven and began shifting the process away from simply an attempt to catch fish and more towards an expression of art. I later won, in my division, the Northeast Fly-Tying Competition in Boston.
In the sixth grade, I began taking piano lessons and taught myself the guitar in the ninth grade. Then I became interested in songrwriting as well as writing fiction and poetry. Currently 19 years old and a sophomore at Amherst College in Massachusetts, I am planning to major in English and Art.
Artist Statement
Joseph Campbell said "beyond all these manifestations is the one radiance, which shines through all things. The function of art is to reveal this radiance through the created object."
I paint because it helps me to see. I want to awaken myself and others to the beauty that is inherent in the reality of each moment all around us. Obviously, I am not close to this yet, but I work on it with each piece. I hope you enjoy my art and witness the development of my talent throughout time.
"Beauty is life when life unveils her holy face. But you are life and you are the veil."
- Kahlil Gibran
