iD Arts Magazine Jacksonville Submission Information
Thank you very much for your consideration of A City of Expression Jacksonville’s iD Arts Magazine Jacksonville (iD is pronounced id, like the Freudian psyche), available at www.idmagazinejax.com. We hope that you enjoy your feature on this directory of local artists. We accept submissions from artists who live in a large area, from Brunswick to St. Augustine to Gainesville to Lake City and back to Jacksonville, so please tell all your artistic friends that live within this area that they need to be featured. We are looking for artists of all types, from poets and musicians to painters and sculptors…all artistic people to create a talent pool for the area and organize the local arts culture.
In order to create an effective feature, at least 6 images of your work are needed for each category of art that you are submitting to (12 images gives substance to your feature), with a maximum of 30 images in each category. This maximum may be increased for a small one-time $15 fee. Poets and short story authors do not have a minimum requirement, but a maximum of 10 does apply for poets and 4 for story authors. Please keep short stories very brief. Again, this maximum may be increased for a small one-time $15 fee. Books are not permitted, however, brief book reviews supplied by you are.
Your images should be sent 700 pixels wide at 72 dpi (resolution of 72) so that viewers will be able to view a larger image of your work should you choose to pay a one-time fee for this service ($35 per hour). The service is demonstrated on the feature link below for 190 on the Cartoons page (NOTE: 190’s large images are only 400 pixels wide, width of creation, and could not be further enlarged). This service is available for artists that have detailed work that is best viewed large…and, if you want to sell your art from iD Jax, giving viewers more ease will sell more art. If you don’t want to pay for the larger images, send your images 200 pixels wide at 72 dpi (resolution). Please send your images in a jpeg or gif format – attached to your email separately and not zipped, please…send in several emails if necessary. Other formats are not suitable for the Web, such as those attached within the body of emails or within Word documents. Also, please ensure that all images are suitable for a middle school audience. An adult edition of iD will come later, but for now the site needs to be used in the schools ASAP to assist local art teachers.
Watermarks are allowed as long as they do not block viewers from viewing a huge majority of your art. We reserve the right to refuse images that do not comply. iD is only responsible for providing a means for you to display your artwork, although we do mention in our disclaimer (see http://www.idmagazinejax.com/idmagjax/idmagjax_disclaimer.htm for details) that art theft is punishable by law and, with the feature images, we make an effort to make your images safe from art thieves, as the right click save feature is disabled. Also, you may be asked by us to use your work within the magazine or even in its promotional material online and printed.
Please resend any images already sent incorrectly and try, if possible, to include all images in one email. We need images named a particular way: idmagjax_your_name_image#_image_title.jpg (or gif). For example, the perfect image would be named something similar to: idmagjax_mark_gebhardt_1_miss-id-rules.jpg and idmagjax_mark_gebhardt_2_mother-millennia-needs-your-interpretation.jpg. Notice that everything is lowercase and there are underscores instead of spaces between words (except for images titles, which are to be separated by hyphens as shown above in bold text) and that there is no apostrophes or other punctuation except the period before the format. The number is important as well as the title incase you wish to pay a one-time fee ($35 per hour) for us to add titles, sizes, types, and prices to be displayed under the images within your feature. REMEMBER: all lowercase, please. There may need to be a charge for us needing to rename misnamed images or they may be returned to get fixed by you.
Please view the Artist Gallery pages to get an idea of how your feature will appear. Art will be displayed 200 pixels wide, three per row. You can give the viewers the option of clicking the art for a larger view (700 pixels wide) to determine if they want to purchase your art (this service costs $35 per hour). It looks clean and works out well for both you and the viewer, as it is difficult to see the detail of your work in the smaller images.
View a sample layout at www.idmagazinejax.com/cartoons/cartoons_190/idmagjax_cartoons_190.htm. You will possibly need to unblock ActiveX to view the menu items of iD’s Navigation Station to access the menu function. Note: 190 sent his images only 400 pixels wide and they could not be enlarged, so his larger images aren’t as large as they can appear in your feature.
We need several paragraphs of your Artist Statement about how you create your work that includes what steps you take in preparing your art. The paragraphs should be educational so that viewers learn a little about how to create artwork similar to yours (this makes your feature iDucation compliant – iDucation will become our arts educational program for artists and art lovers of all ages). Do not disclose secret techniques; just educate those who know nothing about the arts in the manner that you see fit. We also need your comprehensive Artist Biography if you plan to include one in your feature. Look throughout the magazine to get an idea how other artists have promoted themselves. Remember, your feature is all about self promotion and selling your artwork!
Also supply an email address that can be published on the Web so that viewers can contact you directly if they want to purchase your featured artwork or commission new works (unless you decide to sell via our online store, $35 per hour). Commissions are accepted as an in kind donation and you would be listed on the Sponsors page. Include a link to your personal Web site if you have one to be included in your feature and we expect your site to add our link image to iD Arts Magazine Jacksonville at www.idmagazinejax.com. It is encouraged that you send a photo of yourself and your logo (if you have one) so that viewers feel more personally attached to you and your work, so they can say hello if they see you out. This will create a more intimate mood for purchasing. Also, please send your city of residence. This is of utmost importance to our plan.
In return for a free feature, we require that you create and send your interpretation of the Miss iD image found on the Mother Millennia page available with other artists’ interpretations of Miss iD. This image is also attached along with this document. Features are $50 without a Miss iD interpretation. The Miss iD interpretation you send will be paired with those created by other artists in Miss iD’s personal Mother Millennia gallery. It does cost considerable dollars to provide this arts venue and this is the only reason we charge you fees. Just to purchase business cards to promoting the site is a challenge for us with no current advertisers.
You can EARN MONEY from iD by selling advertising to your favorite merchants to appear on your feature or anywhere else in iD Jax. You get a 20% commission. All ads will appear at the bottom of the page. Prices are available below:
