Festival Press Release

A City of Expression Jacksonville 2011 Discount Store Photo Festival

After almost 20 years, the arts organization A City of Expression (ACOE) has reformed to sponsor the ACOE 2011 Discount Store Cultural Photo Festival, one of many local ACOE arts events scheduled for 2011. This festival hopes to be displayed within MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) or the Main Library in Jacksonville, FL in time for Valentine's Day. This will give photographers the opportunity to capture the local shoppers during the busy shopping season, get organized, get your frames early and get displayed. Limit of submissions is three (3) images per photographer.

All photos should fit an 8x10 frame. We understand that your phonecam photos will be smaller, so plan to group photos to fit your 8x10 space. All framing should be simple, thin black, preferably purchased from a local discount store. Please don't decorate your frames, as it would look more elegant and enable us to compare apples to apples. All faces should be blurred beyond recognition and this is a very strict rule, as your images will not be displayed without blurred faces. We're sorry if the face is the shot; move on to your next image or get a signed release.

Cultural . . . a broad term that area photographers will define for us. This festival should represent all segments of the population and show viewers this area's shopping experience. All monies earned from sponsors will go toward gift certificates to local discount stores for First, Second, and Third Place, chosen by local non-participating amateur photographer L. Rene Meuse.

A City of Expression was formed in the early 1990s and sponsored iD Magazine as well as numerous arts events in Jacksonville's arts district. Two Explosion of the Arts street festivals, several music festivals, and even a sidewalk chalk art fest for children were sponsored. The group was successful and disbanded for an unknown reason in 1992, as quickly as ACOE formed.

A City of Expression's rebirth came with the A City of Expression 2010 Holiday Festival of Lighthouses, a sculpture project in honor of Maddie Clifton and Art with a Heart, the organization that brings art to young Wolfson Children's Hospital patients, raising money for The Wolfson Children's Hospital.

The rebirth of ACOE has been planned for a very long time and if things go as hoped, there will be the formation of a global arts culture that is totally organized to fight for world unity and world peace. Please befriend and contact us from sites (www.idmagazinejax.com and www.idmagazine.cc) or on Facebook and MySpace to join the efforts of A City of Expression. Main ACOE contact: Mark Gebhardt, iD Arts Magazine Jacksonville Publisher, idmagjax@comcast.net.
