Life Like a River Flows

Life like a river flows
From the mountain peaks
To the valley gorge
Eager to discover what life is for ~

Born from a gushing spring
Sounding like a babbling brook
Tumbles over pebbles with ache and woe
Discovers division between playmate and foe ~

Like water to its tributaries it feeds
And embellishes clever thoughts
By savoring knowledge it assimilates
It drifts and swirls expanding with haste~

Rushes, sometimes overflowing
With anger and furor over boulders,
Negotiating space and demanding attention
Ironically settling at the end for a lesser situation ~

Romantic at times to the point of ecstasy
It drowns in a whirl of love it cannot escape,
Propelled by passion to merge with another
Unites to create a world of brother and brother ~

Life like a river struggles with unexpected turns
Exposing vicious undercurrent and white water rage,
Being capable at times of trouble to self defend
It maintains a steady course along the bend ~

Fearful of the unknown approaching near
Momentarily hesitates against the edge of challenge,
Plunges forward like a waterfall suspended in midair
Majestic and towering cascade everywhere ~

Human imperfection like a spy infiltrates
Polluting every day with senseless spills and waste,
Tilts the golden balance with betrayal
Strives to correct the wrong to no avail ~

Anger festered and detained
Spills over the riverbank to relieve the pain,
Pilfering with the mud along the mountain side
Leaving only devastation and hurt lives ~

The constant sun scorches goal and dream
Disappointment evaporates pond and stream,
Desert drought with empty dry beds begs
A drop of love to bathe the heart before it breaks ~

Persistent rain with the seasons return
Spouting a deluge of precipitation again,
Inundating riverbeds with torrents of water running
Allowing faith to keep the soul from dying ~

Settles comfortable and extensive at places
With shipping ports and pleasant faces
Feeding the masses as it is the plan
To infiltrate the field and irrigate the land ~

Yet, other times, crystal calm and serene
Remembering moments of tranquil peace,
Gold color horizon and boundless boundary
Thoughts as clear as deep understanding ~

Unaware of its destination to the Sea
Stern and with profound knowledge,
Meanders, winds and pushes with great force
At last reaches the endpoint, the Source ~
