How the Rainbow Goblins
saved the land.
In a place unseen by most, a rare family of Rainbow Goblins did dwell. Their home was found nestled along a small brook of the St Johns River, far enough away from onlookers or snoops. In the world, several kinds of goblins existed; Stone Goblins, who secretly fixed the crumbling buildings and the potholes in roads, Tree Goblins, who secretly fixed injured greenery after the storms passed through the area, Water Goblins, who secretly hid amongst the riverbeds and maintained the waterways, Weather Goblins, who sailed about on wings amongst the clouds and cleaned the air, and then there were the even more elusive Rainbow Goblins, the clan of Goblins whose job it was to oversee the other Goblin clans.
One bright morning, the clan elder of the Rainbow Goblins, a crotchety old Goblin by the name of Oglestone, decided to call a meeting of all Goblins, to discuss the plans for the oncoming Springtime cleaning. He trudged back into the deepest depths of the cave and grabbed an ornately carved horn and headed for the entrance. Hoisting up the horn, he gave it a once-over. Crafted from a horn that had broken off a slumbering Dragon, it gleamed in the early morning light. Radiating a slight purplish glow, Oglestone raised it up to his lips and blew into it three times- the signal all Goblins would honor and respond to.
Sure enough, within the hour, Oglestone heard the corresponding replies from each Goblin clan's elder. Smiling, Oglestone set out for the stone outcropping along a slightly-trickling stream. Along the way, he noticed the air was a bit more foggy than normal. As well, he noticed the flowers and trees appeared to droop a little more then normal. With a slight frown upon his face, Oglestone finally made his way to the outcropping and sat amongst his other clan members and waited for the other Goblin clans to arrive.
Within minutes, Oglestone and the rest of his clan members looked up at the commotion coming their way from the oncoming trails surrounding the stream. Pouring into the opening were the representatives of the other Goblin clans, all panting and looking a bit worse for wear. Oglestone and a few of his personal sentries rushed over to greet them and find out what the problem was.
"Elder Oglestone", the Air Goblin representative gasped as he folded his wings behind his back, "I and the other sentries have arrived, not because of your horn, but to inform you that we need your help! We need your help to fix it!"
Wrinkling an eyebrow, Oglestone replied quickly, "What is the problem, Sentry Dewwing, and how can I be of assistance?"
Sentry Dewwing coughed before he replied," A horde of locusts have swarmed all around the city. They have shredded the clouds with their razor-like wings, and have practically eaten all of the leaves off of the trees. Because of this, the ground has given way and collapsed along the riverbanks and stemmed the flow of water. We need you to create one of your mighty storms, so that water can flow once again, and clouds can be given the chance to reform!"
Nodding his head, Oglestone turned to look at his clan members and spoke aloud, "People of the Rainbow clan, I need you to lift up your voices and join mine in the singing of the Storm chant."
Within seconds, the entire Rainbow clan gathered around their clan elder and lifted up their voice to join his in a mighty chant-like song:
"Swollen clouds filled with the dew of the land, time is of the essence to take a mighty stand.
Gather forth and weep your tears of joy, and spread them across the land.
Summon the guardian that comes after the storms have come,
Rise and lift up the mighty Rainbow Bridge, and wash away all the ills that have been done."
Within seconds, the air above the land began to darken, as mighty clouds began to form. Dark colored clouds swept across the lands and joined together to form mighty thunderheads, all filled with the thirst-quenching waters inside them. As lightning flashed and thunder peeled across the sky, the clouds unleashed their bounty and deluged the land below in a mighty rainstorm.
Outmatched, the swarms of Locusts fled from the skies and fell to the earth below. As the mighty waters filled the streams and rivers, they shattered the land that had impeded their flow, and were whole again.
And, high above the clouds as the rains began to fade hours later, a mighty Rainbow soared overhead, and bathed the land in all the colors it possessed, and peace returned to the land below.
The End
