The Sleeper Awakens
I awaken each morning to a new day, a new hour,
and a new moment of experiences
which are unlike yesterday.
As I stumble through my morning slumber,
finding my way to coffee,
morning meditations & medications and such,
I realize this is a new day . . .
full of new people, new experiences, and new adventures.
The clouds in the sky gently tumbles eastward,
gracing my day with their soft whispers upon the wind.
What is the rhyme or reason in their poetry
upon this day I wonder silently to myself.
I find my day expanding, moving forward.
Sleepily still, I awaken my mind and spirit to the world
and once again I hear the voices of birds singing to each other
to prepare for the approach of summer.
As Mother Earth moves us slowly
into the zenith of the summer sun's radiance,
I watch the grasses and flowers flourish . . .
the work of nature is at its height of activity,
and I realize the Great Wheel is moving me
into yet another cycle of life experiences,
and yet, I feel sleepy.
So, I ask myself this day,
"Why is my spirit still asleep
in this world of great movement
and cycles of change?"
Have I lost my path, my momentum to keep going?
Or, have I lost my sense of purpose?
Or, have I merely taken this moment to rest,
recharging my spirit to prepare for yet another tumultuous
roller coaster ride in the Life Adventures Theme Park?
The cycles of nature I realize,
are always in movement,
sometimes noticeably and sometimes not.
Yet, today I sense that I have been sleeping through it all,
not noticing that the world has kept moving,
even when I have not.
And so, today,
I awaken into a new day,
a new moment,
a new awareness,
that life with its many kaleidoscopes
continues to nourish my soul,
softens the woes of my mind,
and inspires my courageous spirit.
What have I been missing?
Was it the manna of spiritual foods?
Or, did I lose my perspective on my own self respect
and personal dedication towards my goals?
I suppose I merely needed a moment
to ponder these things.
As I slept in nature's womb,
rebirthing myself into a new day,
and so now, I awaken . . .
I take a new step,
a leap of faith into the unknown,
watching in child-like awe
as I stumble yet again into this world.
Realizing that all that I now see,
I've seen before, but this time
the view is different,
the melody is familiar,
yet the characters on stage
wields different masks.
The wheel of the universe has turned
once again and so have I,
and now I am awake
and walking through my day . . .
Will you join me and bask in its splendor?
Or will you remain asleep,
not noticing that my spirit
endures with you
in these journeys upon the
pathways of life?
The answer is within you,
The challenges are new.
Have you found me in the splendor
of the seasons or have I found you?
Sleep easy, awaken softly,
never worry, never fear,
for I am with you in these times,
both far and near.
For though you are weary
and your heart carries many woes,
I am with you now and forever
wherever your heart goes.
The End
